Numerous strategies for the integration of listening, speech articulation, and language are utilized at Northwest School for Hearing-Impaired Children (Shoreline), a program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. These have been categorized in a checklist in a manner useful for self-evaluation or supervision. Video examples at the preschool, 1-2nd grade, 4th grad, and 7-8th grade level can be provided in the session so that audiologists or speech-language pathologists can practice identifying the techniques. Further, the strategies can be isolated and described so that they are better understood.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will have an opportunity to tell others how they have or might use some of the techniques
- Participants will be able to recognize 5 strategies for the development of listening, 5 for speech, and 5 for language, and record them on the devised tool.
- Participants will be able to select 3 additional strategies that they can incorporate with children
