In order to develop a foundational level of dysphagia-related skills for graduate students, a series of competency-based dysphagia labs were developed and taught based on ASHA guidelines. Feedback was extremely positive and students demonstrated increased dysphagia-related skills and self-efficacy, indicating this model's feasibility. Suggestions for implementation will be shared.
Learning Objectives:
- Define competency-based learning and its applicability to clinical skill training.
- Describe previous research relating to the teaching of dysphagia-related skills.
- Discuss the development of a competency-based dysphagia labs in the experience of one teaching institution.
