Poster Session: Using Service-Learning for Developmental Screening

The effectiveness of using undergraduate service-learning to conduct early developmental screenings in partnership with a community child find agency was studied in a university-based Communication Disorders program. Results based on measures of student learning outcomes, and community service quality indicate potential benefits for using this service-learning model in communication disorders.

Learning Objectives:
After completing the activity, participants will be able to:
  1. describe the process of engaging students in communication disorders in Service Learning
  2. discuss the pros and cons of incorporating service learning into communication disorders curricula
  3. explain the effectiveness of service learning in early screening on student learning outcomes and on the quality of community services
